Two burials, two cremations: In Tihar, a sparse record of last rites
Hindustan Times
|September 26, 2025
A plain patch of unremarkable land behind the high walls of Tihar jail has seen the last rites of four controversial convicts sentenced to death in the past four decades, three senior officials said on Thursday.
Two of those people — 2001 Parliament attack convict Mohammad Afzal Guru and Kashmiri separatist leader Mohammad Maqbool Bhatt — were buried here with no tomb stones or markings of any kind to denote their final resting place, the officials said. On Wednesday, the Delhi high court dismissed a plea seeking the removal of the two graves from the prison premises.
