The Supreme Court on Tuesday directed the AIFF to take instructions ona newspaper report which alleged that pursuant to the AIFF constitution approved by the top court, the national football body has written to FIFA for its approval.

- Abraham Thomas

“Where is the question of consulting FIFA,” said a bench of justices PS Narasimha and AS Chan-durkar, after the news report was shown to the court by senior advocate Gopal Sankaranarayanan whoassisted the court in finalising the AIFF constitution.

Sankaranarayanan said that there was no requirement for AIFF to write this letter as both FIFA and the Asian Football Confederation (AFC) were consulted by former Supreme Court judge, L Nageswara Rao at the time of drafting the Constitution.

‘AIFF was represented in court by senior advocate Ranjit Kumar ‘who said he was caught unaware of this development and would require time to take instructions.
