Rana helped Headley get visa on fake docs'

On Monday, after a gap of 15 years, Mumbai Police's crime branch filed a charge sheet against Canadian national Tahawwur Hussain Rana for his role in the 26/11 terror plot - fours months after a US district court in California approved Rana's extradition to India.

Rana, who has challenged the extradition order, is at present lodged in a jail in Los Angeles for his involvement in plotting a terror attack on the Danish newspaper Jyllands-Posten.

The Mumbai crime branch's 405-page charge sheet filed before a Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act court mostly repeats information that was already in the public domain.

The charge sheet contends that Rana came to India on November 11, 2008 and stayed until November 21, 2008. Two of these days were spent in Mumbai, where he stayed at Hotel Renaissance at Powai. The brazen terror attack on November 26, 2008 struck at the heart of India's financial capital, claiming 166 lives. Nine terrorists involved in the attack were killed, and the tenth, Ajmal Kasab, was hanged in 2012 after being sentenced to death.
