Deora's exit brings Maha Cong leadership fissures to the fore

That Milind Deora was unhappy in the Congress was visible for the past couple of years, but his departure from the grand old party on Sunday highlighted the party's dwindling fortunes in Mumbai and once again reflected the top leadership's failure to address concerns of yet another young leader considered close to the brass.

A former Mumbai unit chief of the Congress,Deora (47) was expecting a bigger role, especially when the party was struggling to revive its fortunes in the city where it was founded in 1885. He was eyeing to contest the upcoming Lok Sabha polls from Mumbai South constituency, a seat he held twice in past.
However, with the ally Shiv Sena (UBT) staking claim to the seat, having won it in 2014 and 2019, it proved to be the proverbial last straw and Deora ended his family's 55-year association with the party, a leader close to him said.
