15 PFI men held guilty of BJP leader's brutal murder in 2021

A Kerala court on Saturday convicted 15 men, all associated with the now-banned radical Islamist group Popular Front of India (PFI), in connection with the murder of Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Ranjith Sreenivasan in Alappuzha in 2021. The quantum of sentence will be pronounced on Monday.

Sreenivasan (40), who was the state secretary of the BJP OBC Morcha, was hacked to death at his home in Vellakinar in Alappuzha town allegedly by members of the now-banned PFI and its political arm Social Democratic Party of India (SDPI) on December 19, 2021.
According to the police, the BJP leader's mother, wife and younger daughter were witnesses to the crime.
The murder was perceived as retaliation to the murder of SDPI state secretary KS Shan on the previous day allegedly by members of the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) in Alappuzha district. The trial in that case is still going on.
On Saturday, the Mavelikkara additional district sessions court found the 15 accused guilty of murder of Sreenivasan.
