Collapsed, wounded, and weak: Manu finds hope at last

Weak, blind, and covered in unhealed wounds, 58-year-old elephant Manu had collapsed in the Mau region of Uttar Pradesh, battling severe dehydration and the weight of decades of suffering.

AGRA: But after years of pain and neglect, relief has finally arrived—he has been rescued and is now safe at Wildlife SOS Elephant Conservation and Care Centre in Mathura, where he is receiving the care he desperately needs.

Manu's past was marked by relentless abuse, forced labour, and years of neglect that left him with deep scars, chronic septic wounds, and unhealed fractures.

His condition had deteriorated so severely that even standing became impossible. But his rescue became a turning point—after a lifetime of suffering, he has finally found a place of comfort and compassion at Wildlife SOS, where a dedicated team is helping him heal with care, patience, and dignity.

The distress call from the divisional forest officer (DFO) of Mau set Manu's rescue in motion. The information was swiftly relayed to the principal chief conservator of forests (wildlife) and the chief wildlife warden, leading to immediate intervention.
