Mahmood, 45, is increasingly viewed as a top-tier contender to lead the Labour Party — a development that would make her the United Kingdom's first Muslim prime minister.
Mahmood is a child of immigrants from Pakistan who's pushed her party towards a more hard-line stance on immigration.
