Oppn MLAs Create Ruckus in House Over Pension Scheme
Hindustan Times Ranchi
|March 07, 2025
The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) legislators on Thursday created a ruckus in the Jharkhand assembly, demanding an increase in the pension for the elderly, widows, and people with disabilities (PwDs) from ₹1,000 to ₹2,500 per month, similar to the pension being given to beneficiary women under the Mukhyamantri Maiyan Samman Yojana (MMSY).
RANCHI:
The saffron party MLAs trooped into the well of the House, seeking a reply from the Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM)-led government before staging a walkout for the day during the question hour. They asked the government whether it intended to raise the pension amount for widows, physically challenged persons, and elderly people to be on par with the beneficiaries of the MMSY.
Under this scheme, the government provides ₹2,500 per month to women beneficiaries aged between 18 and 50 years. The government assured the agitating members that it would consider the demand but stopped short of taking any decision on the matter.
