Jharkhand chief minister Hemant Soren emphasized on Sunday that the fight for tribal rights continues, drawing a parallel with the struggles of their ancestors who fought against the British long before India's independence was even a distant dream.

- Raj Kumar

JAMSHEDPUR:

Soren's assertions came during his speech at Martyrs' Honour Day at Siringasiya under the Tonto Block of West Singhbhum district, held in remembrance of the tribal rebellion (Kol Rebellion) against the British, led by martyr Poto Ho in 1837.

"We Adivasis, led by martyrs like Poto Ho, Bhagwan Birsa Munda, Baba Tilka Majhi, Sidhu Kanhu, Chand-Bhairav, and Phulo-Jhano, took on the mighty British Empire head-on with money and all sorts of weapons at a time when the dream of India's independence had not taken shape. It is their unrelenting struggle and fight for our rights that have given the tribals a separate identity and a glorious legacy. We are proud of being tribals," said Soren.

Impetus for science amidst a global churn

The relentless rise of technologies pervades every aspect of human life today, and Artificial Intelligence (AI) is its enforcer. From manufacturing to services, from nano-materials to space travel, from new chemistry to biotechnology, the pace of this rise is frenetic. There are two extreme ways—and a few in between—for countries to address this rise. The first is to be a passive user and play with markets, services, and exports of natural resources, including human talent. The second is to become a truly competitive player in this changing world, and to tilt the use of science and technology for our social and economic benefit. Budget allocations can help in pointing out the direction.
