The Hemant Soren government's decision to rename Dr. Shyama Prasad Mukherjee University in Ranchi after tribal icon Budhu Bhagat has sparked a political controversy in Jharkhand, with the opposition Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) objecting to the cabinet's decision to drop the name of the veteran Jan Sangh leader.
RANCHI: The Hemant Soren government's decision to rename Dr. Shyama Prasad Mukherjee University in Ranchi after tribal icon Budhu Bhagat has sparked a political controversy in Jharkhand, with the opposition Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) objecting to the cabinet's decision to drop the name of the veteran Jan Sangh leader.
On Thursday, among other decisions, the state Cabinet approved the higher and technical education department's proposal to rename the state university. "The proposal to amend the 2017 Act was approved by the cabinet. Dr. Shyama Prasad Mukherjee University (DSPMU) would now be known as Veer Shaheed Budhu Bhagat University," cabinet secretary Vandana Dadel said.
