Resolution of rape, Pocso cases delayed due to DNA tests backlog
Hindustan Times Rajasthan
|January 23, 2025
The resolution of rape and Protection of Children from sexual offences (Pocso) Act cases in Rajasthan is facing significant setbacks due to prolonged delays in DNA testing, with reports pending for several years, according to home department's records.
JODHPUR:
According to official records, the state forensic science laboratory (SFSL) is grappling with an enormous backlog, with DNA reports for rape cases pending since 2020 and for Pocso cases since 2021. An official familiar with the issue said, "The primary reasons for this backlog are the high volume of incoming cases and the limited testing capacity of forensic facilities. On average, 700 new cases are received every month, but the state has only two operational units against the requirement of 20."

Fly me to the moon...
It wasn't easy, bringing the stars indoors. The world's first planetarium opened 100 years ago, in Germany. It used the grainy imagery of the time, but elicited gasps nonetheless. Today, planetariums invite viewers to zoom through galaxies, tour clouds of asteroids, view meteors as they approach. And, a new future looms: explorations of tech, biology, even the human body - on domes so large and crystal-clear, they're helping astrophysicists learn about space
