JAIPUR: Former Rajasthan chief minister and senior Congress leader Ashok Gehlot on Sunday criticised the Bharatiya Janata Party-led Union government's handling of the Kumbh Mela as he accused the party of using the event for "political gains".
Gehlot's statements came a day after 18 people were killed in a stampede at the New Delhi railway station when thousands of devotees gathered to board three Prayagraj-bound trains to attend the Maha Kumbh. "Many people tragically lost their lives in the stampede caused by the huge crowd of devotees at New Delhi Railway Station, who were on their way to attend the Kumbh Mela," Gehlot said on X.
