Govt asks states to reduce cooking oil use in school meals

EDUCATION DEPT ADVISORY URGES STATES, UNION TERRITORIES TO TAKE UP QUIZZES, TALKS, AND YOGA TO CUT OIL INTAKE AND PRIORITISE HEALTHIER EATING
NEW DELHI: The government has advised states and Union territories to cut the use of cooking oil in school meals under the Pradhan Mantri Poshan Shakti Nirman (PM POSHAN) scheme by 10% in a bid to promote healthier eating habits amid growing concerns over childhood obesity.
The advisory issued by the secretary of the department of school education and literacy (DoSEL) in the ministry of education, Sanjay Kumar, on Saturday urged state education departments, school authorities and other stakeholders to raise awareness among students about the benefits of reducing oil consumption.
