Farmers hail ERCP, seek 50% water quota for agri

BHARATPUR: Farmers in Eastern Rajasthan on Tuesday demanded that 50% of water from the Eastern Rajasthan Canal Project (ERCP) must be reserved for agriculture purposes.

Bharatpur district kisan union convener Indal Jat, who has been agitating for distribution of ERCP water to the district, said that farmers need 50% of the water from the project. "Farmers in many districts of Eastern Rajasthan have been waiting for the project but water supply should be ensured to each area for farmers," he told HT.

Jat's statements came hours after Prime Minister Narendra Modi laid the foundation stone of the first phase of interlinked Parvati-Kalisindh-Chambal (PKC)-Eastern Rajasthan Canal Project (ERCP).
