BJP, Cong Trade Barbs Over Budget

Exemption from income tax for annual income up to ₹12 lakh was the biggest news of the Union Budget 2025, with industry experts and common people hailing the announcement made by Union finance minister Nirmala Sitharaman on Saturday.

During the budget speech in Parliament, Sitharaman announced tax slabs and tax rates will be changed across the board and a simplified tax structure was proposed in the New Income Tax Bill that will be introduced in Parliament next week.

While there were no direct announcements for Rajasthan, the minister announced that the Centre will guarantee loans taken by the state for road and water projects. The budget has given a guarantee of ₹321.21 crore for the Rajasthan state highway project and ₹255 crore for rural water distribution project.

Rajasthan's share in the central taxes too has increased by ₹10,000 crore as against the last budget. The state will get ₹85,716 crore in the next financial year.

The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) praised the budget announcements as people-friendly, while the opposition parties termed it "disappointing" with no major announcement for Rajasthan.
