Under the Jal Jeevan Mission, pure drinking water is now available in 150 million houses of the country CR PATIL, Union Jal Shakti minister
JAIPUR: Union Jal Shakti minister CR Patil said on Tuesday that the government is working in line with the Prime Minister's Narendra Modi's vision to make India water secure by 2047.
Addressing the 2nd All India State Ministers' Water Conference, the minister said, "PM Modi has a vision to make India water secure by 2047. Under the Jal Jeevan Mission, pure drinking water is now available in 150 million houses of the country. At least 2.5 million women were given kits and training to check the purity of water. Similarly, "Catch the Rain" campaign is being run for rain water harvesting across the country, under which the migrants are also contributing in building recharge wells for groundwater recharge in villages."
Referring to the recently signed MoU among Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, and the Union government over water sharing under the interlinked Parvati-Kalisindh-Chambal (PKC) project and the Eastern Rajasthan Canal Project (ERCP), Patil added, "Rajasthan will get more water under the Ramjal Setu Project (new name of the modified PKC-ERCP Link Project). Under the project, large quantity of water will be supplied to Rajasthan in future. The Yamuna Water Agreement, will also similarly ensure that the surplus water of Yamuna being channelled to Rajasthan with the prompt decision of Rajasthan and Haryana states."
