PRICES RISE AMID HIGH DEMAND
Less than 150 metric tonnes (MT) of Bangladeshi Hilsa have reached West Bengal and Tripura this year, while the last consignment is expected to arrive on Saturday, fish importers in Kolkata said, adding that this is the lowest quantity of Hilsa imported from the neighbouring country in recent times.
“This year the Bangladesh government allowed only 1200 MT Hilsa to be exported to India ahead ofthe Durga Puja. But so far, only around 144 MT have reached West Bengal and Tripura. The last consignment is expected to reach on October 4,” said Syed Anwar Maqsood, secretary of the Fish Importers in Kolkata.

{ DR GG PARIKH } 1924-2025 Veteran Gandhian leader, freedom fighter Parikh dies at 101
It was befitting that the last of the legendary Gandhians should die on Gandhi Jayanti. Dr GG Parikh who passed away on Thursday morning was one of those rare figures whose death at the age of 101 will be mourned not just by the grey eminences talking about a ‘second’ freedom movement, but also by hundreds of young grassroots workers for whom he was an inspiration, and as evidenced by many of them breaking down at his funeral in Mumbai.
