PMC Suggests Measures To Reduce Water Consumption

The Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) last week came up with measures to cut down on its excess water consumption after directions from the Water Resources Regulatory Authority (WRRA).

As per officials from the state water resources department, the PMC has been drawing more water from the Khadakwasla dam than its sanctioned quota, causing a shortage in irrigation water in the district.

Following a recent hearing, the WRRA directed the PMC to reduce its water consumption.

In response, the PMC's water department has submitted a plan of action to the municipal commissioner for review. If implemented, Pune residents may face water cuts in the coming days. With temperatures rising since February, water shortages are expected this summer. The WRRA has instructed the PMC to curtail the city's water supply to align with its sanctioned quota.
