Oppn, govt come close to blows in assembly
Hindustan Times Patna
|July 25, 2025
The Bihar assembly was adjourned abruptly by Speaker Nand Kishore Yadav in the second half on Thursday to prevent a potential scuffle between the opposition and treasury benches, after Leader of Opposition Tejashwi Yadav in his address attacked the state government for “doing nothing”.
On the penultimate day of the monsoon session, Tejashwi was engaged in a verbal duel with Deputy CM Samrat Choudhary over the FIR lodged against a journalist “showing the ground realities of the special intensive survey (SIR)” and the situation went out of hand when legislators form the Opposition and treasury benches got involved.
Several RJD legislators charged towards BJP legislator Janak Singh, who was targeting Tejashwi and also getting instant replies from him, but there was something that touched the wrong chord of the Opposition. Later some RJD legislators said Janak Singh said something objectionable about Tejashwi's parents, while NDA MLAs blamed it on the RJD.
It was due to timely intervention of the marshals that the situation was prevented from turning ugly, as the RJD legislators were stopped just ahead of the treasury benches.
