DEHRADUN: Haldwani Congress MLA Sumit Hridayesh stoked a massive controversy over his recent remark on Kashmiris after the terror attack in Pahalgam which killed 26 people.

Speaking to reporters on Saturday, Hridayesh said, "I am extremely angry. They (terrorists) first asked their (victims') religion, and then they shot them. What did the terrorists say? 'Go tell Modi'. I stand with Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Whatever decision the Government of India takes, I stand firmly with it. People behind this heinous act must be taught a lesson."

He added, "But I want to say something to the people of Kashmir. You held a candle march, but there was no Indian flag in it.
