SC seeks unified body for managing Ridge

The Supreme Court on Monday suggested setting up a single "consolidated" authority to manage Delhi's ecologically sensitive Ridge forests and directed the Delhi government to consult the Central Empowered Committee (CEC) and submit a proposal for improved Ridge management by Thursday.

The Delhi Ridge — part of the ancient Aravalli range — acts as the Capital's green lung and plays a critical role in pollution mitigation. It spans Northern, Central, South Central and Southern regions, covering over 7,700 hectares. Its management has long been fragmented, with multiple authorities overseeing different sections.
