EC Will Digitally Link to Death Registration Data for Voter List Updates

The Poll Body Has Authority to Seek Such Details Under Two Laws, and Was Among Three Separate Announcements

NEW DELHI: The Election Commission of India will now obtain death registration data electronically from the Registrar General of India, an official statement said on Thursday, in a move aimed at ensuring error-free and faster updates of the voters' list.

This will ensure that the Electoral Registration Officers (EROs) receive timely information about registered deaths, the EC statement said. "It will also enable the BLOs to re-verify the information through field visits, without waiting for a formal request under Form 7," it said.
