Cong writes to PM, asks why no LS Dy Speaker

Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge on Tuesday wrote to Prime Minister Narendra Modi to initiate the process of electing a Deputy Speaker of the Lok Sabha without any further delay, pointing out that the post has been vacant since the 17th Lok Sabha.
NEW DELHI:
AIADMK's M Thambi Durai was the last deputy speaker during the 16th Lok Sabha from 2014 to 2019, when BJP's Sumitra Mahajan was the Speaker. The ruling BJP-led NDA has remained silent on why the position has not been filled or whether the move to elect a deputy speaker was on cards.
