AAP wants 12K contractual staff to be regularised

The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) has decided to regularise the services of 12,000 contractual employees of the Municipal Corporation of Delhi and a proposal to this effect will be tabled in the House of councillors on Tuesday, party leader Atishi and mayor Mahesh Kumar Khichi said on Sunday.

The announcement comes even as the party recently lost majority in the MCD House after a series of defections to the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and a loss of several assembly constituencies in the recently concluded polls. It also comes ahead of the mayor's end of tenure in March, and the AAP is likely to face an uphill task in the mayoral elections in April.
Meanwhile, the BJP alleged that the announcement is a "deception" and another "false promise" as no "preamble" or policy work for regularisation has been carried out in this regard.
