Curfew on for 6th day in Leh, 2 more funerals held

Strict curfew remained in force in Leh on Monday for the sixth consecutive day in the aftermath of the violence that broke out last week in Ladakh over demands of restoration of statehood and protection under the Sixth Schedule.
Four people died in the mob violence that took place last Wednesday. While the funeral of two of the deceased took place ‘on Sunday, the two others — Kargil war veteran Tsewang Tharchin and a local Rinchen Dadul (21) — was conducted on Monday.
Violence broke out in the Union Territory on September 24 during protests demanding full statehood for the Union Territory and protections for jobs and land.
The incident prompted authorities to clamp curfew which was relaxed for two hours at 4pm on Monday after the cremation of the last two deceased.
Ladakh Lieutenant Governor Kavinder Gupta a high-level review meeting on the prevailing law and order situation in the Union Territory. During the meeting, Gupta lauded people of Ladakh for showing remarkable restraint and commitment to people in challenging circumstances, further promising to address their every legitimate issue through dialogue and democratic means.
