Poll booths to be set up inside Capital's colonies

The Election Commission of India (ECI) has tied up with various resident welfare associations (RWAs) across Delhi to set up polling stations inside residential societies — a first for the Capital, people aware of the matter said.

ECI officials said the decision has been taken to increase the voter turnout.

The Commonwealth Games Village near the Akshardham temple — which falls under the Laxmi Nagar constituency — is one such complex where a polling booth has been set up.

"Earlier, voters had to go to a polling station in Samaspur, which is a bit far from here. Now, voters can conveniently walk down to the polling station, and we hope the voter turnout will increase," Shyam Prasad, RWA administrative officer, said, adding that the residential society has around 1,200 voters.
