'Govt keeps options open for future Al legislation'

As the Centre sets up a committee and high-level ministerial body to shape India's artificial intelligence (AI) policy, an official from the ministry of electronics and information technology (MeitY) said the government has not ruled out the possibility of a separate legal framework for the technology in future.
For now, the government's view is that dedicated legislation is unnecessary, given that Al remains in an early, innovation-driven phase in the country, but it has kept the door open for a future law, the official said, requesting anonymity.
