NE advisor tells Manipur insurgent groups to abide by peace pact rules

Union home ministrys northeast advisor AK Mishra, officials from the intelligence bureau and the Manipur government on Wednesday met Kuki-Zo groups under the Suspension of Operations (S00) pact, with people familiar with the matter saying that the insurgent groups were told to strictly abide by the ground rules of the peace pact and relocate some of their camps housing cadres from vulnerable areas.

The meeting in Guwahati was held against the backdrop of efforts by the government to start rehabilitating internally displaced people (IDP) to their homes, which are being disrupted by attacks from insurgent groups. To be sure, even as police confirmed the involve-

ment of Kuki-Zo insurgents in two recent cases of attacks on people trying to resettle, they have not yet confirmed if the groups are part of the S00.
