Delhi govt to introduce new EV policy, increase charging points

The recently elected Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP)-led government will introduce a new electric vehicle (EV) policy in April under which it will increase the number of charging stations in the Capital, as party leaders said that less than 10% of the targeted points were set up under the existing policy.
NEW DELHI:
The current Delhi EV policy, unveiled in 2020 by the then Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) government, is due to expire this month. Under it, 48,000 public and semi-public EV charging points were to be set up in the Capital by 2026 but work appears to have been behind schedule with only 4,793 charging points set up so far, according to data from the transport department.
"The previous government kept talking about adding more electric vehicles to Delhi but the basic infrastructure upgrade to support these vehicles was not done and they have met just 10% of their own targets. People still find it difficult to find EV charging stations in Delhi. I have asked the department to ensure that the work is expedited, and more sites are identified to set up public charging stations," environment minister Manjinder Singh Sirsa told HT on Thursday.
