There's no bigger joy for a parent than seeing one's toddler healthy, crawling and ready to walk.
But, for some, this joy is deferred or even denied, in cases when a child is diagnosed with Spinal Muscular Atrophy (SMA).
This disease affects the central nervous system, peripheral nervous system, and voluntary muscle movement (skeletal muscle). "SMA is inherited and manifested in individuals due to defective genes," informs Vinit Banga, director, Neurology and Neurovascular Intervention at Fortis Escorts Hospital, Faridabad.
