Five couples in live-in relationships have applied for registration under the Uniform Civil Code (UCC) since its implementation on January 27, a senior official of the state government said on Tuesday.

- HT Correspondent

DEHRADUN:

Shailesh Bagauli, home secretary, said, "Five applications have been submitted for the registration for the live-in relationship under UCC."

He said once the process of verification is over, the couples will be issued the registration certificates.

Speaking about the district-wise application, Bagauli said the data is encrypted and can't be shared due to privacy concerns.

"We don't even know who has applied and from where. It is against right to privacy," he said.

Meanwhile, a live-in couple from Dehradun spoke to HT reiterating that they won't register under UCC as it breaches their privacy.
