434 kg cannabis seized in US Nagar distt, 1 held

The special task force (STF) along with Udham Singh Nagar police on Friday arrested a man and recovered 434kg of cannabis, in what the officers claimed was the biggest-ever bust of ganja in the state.

The drugs were brought in a canter truck from Jharkhand, officers familiar with the matter added. The market value of the seized cannabis is said to be ₹1.08 crore. Earlier, the state police recovered 77.35kg ganja in 2024.

Senior superintendent of police (STF) Navneet Singh Bhullar said, "The Kumaon unit of the STF, in coordination with the Udham Singh Nagar police, has recovered 4 quintals and 34kg of ganja (cannabis) from a canter truck in Pulbhatta police station area. The drugs were concealed in specially created compartments within the vehicle. This is the largest cannabis seizure in Uttarakhand to date."

He said, "We also arrested an accused Raju Ali, an interstate drug smuggler, and a native of Lakhimpur Kheri in UP, who was transporting narcotics from Jharkhand to Uttarakhand in the truck. The consignment was intended for distribution in areas such as Rudrapur, Gadarpur, and Bajpur in the Udham Singh Nagar district."
