HSBC lifts Indian equities to ‘overweight’ on valuations

HSBC upgraded Indian equities to “overweight” from “neutral” on Wednesday and said valuations were turning attractive versus peers, becoming one of the first major firms to turn bullish on Asia's third-largest economy after hefty US tariffs kicked in.
India's benchmark Nifty 50 has risen 6.1% and the Sensex has gained 4.7% so far in 2025.

Indian equities have vastly underperformed their regional and emerging market peers this year in the face of US tariffs, stretched valuations and slowing earnings growth.
India’s benchmark Nifty 50 has risen 6.1% and the Sensex has gained 4.7% so far in 2025. In comparison, the MSCI's broadest index for Asia-Pacific stocks outside Japan has surged 23%.
