HC scraps acquittal of 4 in '84 riots case
Hindustan Times Delhi
|August 13, 2025
The Delhi High Court has set aside a nearly 40-year-old verdict that acquitted four men in a 1984 anti-Sikh riots case and ordered a retrial of the sole surviving accused, calling the earlier proceedings “hasty” and faulting the CBI for a “perfunctory” probe.
The case concerns the killing of Harbhajan Singh in Ghaziabad’s Raj Nagar on November I, 1984 —a day after Prime Minister Indira Gandhi's assassination. His wife alleged that a mob attacked their home, set it ablaze, and burnt her husband alive.
