Trinamool Congress national general secretary Abhishek Banerjee sharpened his attack on the Bharatiya Janata Party and the Election Commission of India on Wednesday over the special intensive revision (SIR) of electoral roll in West Bengal hours after a 60-year-old farmer attempted suicide in Cooch Behar district allegedly out of fear that he might be branded asa Bangladeshi infiltrator and deported.

The man survived after being rushed to hospital.

The Cooch Behar incident happened a day after a 57-year-old man died by suicide on Tuesday in North 24 Parganas district’s Agarpara, leaving a note holding the National Register of Citizens (NRC) responsible.
