K'taka Students in Iran Seek Help Amid Israel-Iran Tensions

The MEA Said the Indian Embassy in Tehran Is Assessing the Situation and Has Started Relocating Students to Safer Areas

BENGALURU: A day after nine students from Karnataka studying in Tehran raised concerns over their security amid rising tensions between Israel and Iran, the ministry of external affairs said that the government is in touch with NRI committee officials and necessary measures are being taken for relocating the students.

The students, enrolled at Shahid Beheshti Medical University near Tehran, informed Arathi Krishna, vice president of the NRI committee about the matter. She then sent an urgent request to the MEA on Sunday to initiate steps for their safe return.

"Among these students, one—Nadeem Hussain—and his parents based in Bengaluru contacted the office of the Non-Resident Indian (NRI) Committee in Bengaluru over the phone, shared their distress, and expressed a strong desire to return to India immediately. Responding to this, Arathi Krishna, vice president of the NRI Committee, promptly wrote to the Ministry of External Affairs, requesting swift action to bring back these students residing in Iran," the government said in a statement.

"In addition, she has been in constant communication with concerned officials and staff over the phone, closely monitoring the situation and ensuring necessary measures are being taken," the statement added.
