BENGALURU: The Karnataka cabinet, which met at Nandi Hills on Wednesday, approved a slew of proposals, including the renaming of Bengaluru Rural district to Bengaluru North, a move that builds on the state government's ongoing effort to rebrand regions surrounding the capital city.

According to the official cabinet note, "The cabinet approved the proposal to rename 'Bengaluru Rural' district as 'Bengaluru North'. This change is intended to align with the branding of the state capital and boost regional identity and economic prospects." The government said this followed the precedent set by the recent renaming of Ramanagara as Bengaluru South, a move it claimed was aimed at "enhancing the Bengaluru brand."
