Call for action to protect ‘off-grid’ residents from price spike

AN MP has said thousands of Devon households which rely on heating oil are ‘getting ripped off’ as prices have gone up so much.

Official data has revealed that 7,496 off-grid households in the Newton Abbot area us heating oil, andthe conflict in Iran is driving up costs, said the town’s Liberal Democrat MP Martin Wrigley.

Last week he called for urgent intervention, asking Chancellor Rachel Reeves to “see sense” as some oil companies use the crisis in Tran as an excuse to inflate prices.

Lib Dems called for an initial three-month zero-rating for VAT on heating oil for all residential homes.
