UAE Football Association arranges 8 planes to rally fans behind team in Iraq

The UAE Football Association (UAEFA) has responded to surging demand from national team supporters by increasing its charter flights to Basra for fans ahead of the pivotal second leg of the 2026 World Cup qualifying playoff against Iraq.

Originally planning to operate five private planes, UAEFA announced three additional flights-bringing the total to eight-after all seats were snapped up within just two hours of registration opening.

This generous move reflects the passionate support for the team, which was on full display in the first leg in Abu Dhabi, where the UAE and Iraq played out a tense 1-1 draw.

The hosts were under pressure when Iraq struck early through Ali Al-Hamadi, but they responded quickly: Luanzinho rose highest to head the equaliser after a precise cross from Abdalla Ramadan.

Heading into the return match in Basra, UAE coach Cosmin Olaroiu didn’t sugarcoat the challenge ahead, warning his squad to “be ready for the storm.”

He urged his players to be brave in the face of Iraq's physicality, emphasizing that this away fixture is a test of character and belief - “a game to prove itself,” Olaroiu said.
