Sharp decline in caste clashes, crime rate in Kerala: Report
Gulf Today
|October 10, 2025
Kerala recorded a significant decline in caste-related clashes and overall crime between 2016 and 2023, according to the latest data released by the National Crime Records Bureau (NCRB), marking a notable shift in the state's law and order landscape.
The figures suggest a consistent improvement in public safety and legal efficiency over the seven-year period, setting Kerala apart as a top performer among Indian states in terms of criminal justice delivery. In 2016, Kerala registered 26 incidents of caste or communal clashes.
By 2023, that number dropped dramatically to just one - a near-elimination that officials attribute to a combination of effective policing, community engagement, and rapid legal response. In contrast, the country as a whole recorded 475 such incidents in 2023.
