SC allows civilians can be tried in military courts

In a major victory for the federal government, the Supreme Court (SC) ruled on Wednesday that the civilians can be tried in military courts and thus reversed its previous judgment, creating a huge problem for the workers and activists of the Pakistan Tehrik-e-Insaf (PTI), who were allegedly involved in May 9 violence against military installations.

The constitutional bench of the Supreme Court overturned the apex court's October 23, 2023 decision and restored the original provisions of the Army Act in the case concerning military trials of civilians.

The bench announced its reserved verdict on the intra-court appeal challenging the ruling against the trial of civilians in the military courts.
