Rovanpera hits top gear to take Rally Finland lead

Kalle Rovanpera stormed into the lead of Secto Rally Finland on Friday, recapturing the form that the Finn appeared to have been missing on recent WRC rounds.

The two-time world champion took his Toyota GR Yaris Rallyl to a 4.4sec lead over Adrien Fourmaux after setting fastest times on two of the morning's four high-speed tests, which included legendary stages like Laukaa, Ruuhimaki and Myhinpaa.
Rovanpera has endured a self-admittedly tricky run of form on previous gravel rallies this season, with him ending last month's Rally Estonia saying: “If we can't [be fast] here, I don’t know if we can do it anywhere else.”
His fortune could now be changing, however, helped by the support of thousands of home fans turning out to line the stages.
“I'm committed this weekend, trying my best,” he said. “I'm driving the fastest I can.”
