Modi to stress reform of global governance at BRICS

Prime Minister Narendra Modi arrived in Rio de Janeiro late on Saturday as part of his four-day visit to Brazil, where he will participate in the 17th BRICS Summit and undertake a state visit at the invitation of President Lula.

The visit marks the fourth leg of his five-nation tour. Upon his arrival at Galeao International Airport, Modi was given a ceremonial welcome.

Sharing his thoughts on social media, the Prime Minister wrote on X. “Landed in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil where I will take part in the BRICS Summit and later go to their capital, Brasilia, for a state visit on the invitation of President Lula. Hoping for a productive round of meetings and interactions during this visit.”

On Sunday, Modi received a warm welcome from Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva as he arrived at the Museum of Modern Art in Rio de Janeiro to attend the 17th BRICS Leaders Summit.

During the Summit, Modi will exchange views on key global issues, including reform of global governance, peace and security, strengthening multilateralism, responsible use of artificial intelligence, climate action, global health, and economic and financial matters.

Modi was given a unique and spiritually charged welcome as he arrived in Rio de Janeiro for the 17th BRICS Summit where a local musical ensemble performed the revered Sanskrit mantra “Om Gan Ganpataye Namah”.
