Kerala HC blasts authorities for highway collapse

The Kerala High Court has heavily criticised the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) over the collapse of several stretches of the arterial highway in the southern state.

Justice Deven Ramachandran observed that people had waited patiently for the road to open, only to see it fail shortly after, which triggered widespread anger and protest.

In response, NHAI informed the court that the contractors responsible for the damaged sections have been blacklisted.

It also assured the court that necessary structural corrections would be made and acknowledged that there had been lapses in oversight. NHAI asked for time to provide a detailed response.

Justice Ramachandran directed NHAI to submit an interim report by next Thursday, seeking clarity on the causes and the measures taken in response.
