Kerala CM freezes controversial education project

Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan has yielded to significant public pressure against implementing a scheme critics allege is influenced by Hindu nationalist ideology.

Recently, a state official signed a memorandum of understanding with the federal education department to launch the PM-SHRI scheme, intended to enhance school education under the National Education Policy (NEP) framework.

However, this move was carried out without informing the state cabinet, his party, or the alliance partners, allegedly at Vijayan's direction, sparking concerns among various stakeholders.

In response to this unilateral decision, the Communist Party of India (CPI), Vijayan’s most prominent ally in the ruling coalition, expressed its displeasure at the agenda being rolled out in the state, which it has been opposing nationwide.
