Kerala adopts resolution against electoral roll revision

Kerala's ruling Left Democratic Front (LDF) and the opposition United Democratic Front (UDF) came together on Monday in the state legislature to unanimously pass a resolution opposing the ongoing revision of the voters' list by the Election Commission of India (ECI).

The Special Intensive Revision (SIR) is an extraordinary measure undertaken by the ECI to verify electoral rolls with more rigour than the regular annual revision.

It involves comprehensive door-to-door verification, stringent document checks, and meticulous cross-verification of voter eligibility to ensure accuracy.

While the exercise is marketed as a means to cleanse the electoral rolls of duplications, critics raise alarms that it may lead to widespread exclusions, particularly endangering vulnerable demographics who frequently lack access to essential documentation.
