Imran's spouse, sister behind ouster of Gandapur: Report

The primary reason behind Ali Amin Gandapur's ouster as the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) chief minister by his leader, Pakistan Tehrik-e-Insaf (PTI) founder Imran Khan is his public locking of horns with the jailed former premier's sister Aleema Khan and wife Bushra Bibi.

- Tariq Butt

The two ladies with Bushra Bibi being incarcerated with her spouse in the Adiala Jail Rawalpindi are not known to have good relations, but they were one in opposing Gandapur as the KP chief minister and worked hard for his removal. They finally succeeded.

Gandapur's resignation as the KP chief minister is a stark reminder of how perilous it can be for even a powerful figure in the PTI to end up on the wrong side of the two women closest to Imran Khan.

Gandapur, the once-fiery PTI stalwart, had little political ground left to stand on after a bruising power struggle with Aleema Khan and an old rift with Bushra Bibi that never truly healed.

Tensions between Gandapur and Bushra Bibi had been simmering since last year, when the PTI leadership decided to lead a protest march to Islamabad's D-Chowk — a demonstration that later turned bloody. Gandapur then had advised stopping the rally at Sangjani on security and strategic grounds. But Bushra Bibi overruled him and pushed for the march to continue to the heart of the capital.
