Fraudster rents out apartment twice, seizes Dhs72,000

The Abu Dhabi Family, Civil, and Administrative Cases Court has ordered a man to repay Dhs72,125 and pay a fine of Dhs5,000 after he deceived a victim by renting out an apartment which was already leased to another tenant.

The victim filed a lawsuit demanding the appellee repay Dhs143,125, including Dhs72,125 for the fraudulent rental, Dhs20,000 for indirect losses, and Dhs20,000 for moral damages. He also requested to oblige him to cover legal fees.

The plaintiff stated that the appellee claimed to have an apartment for rent and allowed him to inspect it, despite knowing it was already leased to someone else. The appellee demanded the victim pay the rent in advance via four cheques totalling Dhs72,125.
