CUD researcher joins WHO move to reduce death in childbirth

A team of experts and the World Health Organisation (WHO) have joined for a project to tackle the leading global cause of maternal mortality and will explore excessive bleeding after childbirth, known clinically as postpartum haemorrhage (PPH), in order to improve prevention and treatment of the life-threatening condition.

The project is part-funded by the Gates Founda-tion and the team of experts is led by Dr. Malcolm Price, Associate Professor Canadian University Dubai (CUD). A trained biostatistician, Dr. Price will act as a consultant and member of the scientific committee to re-appraise the definition of PPH, which is currently classified as blood loss of 500 ml or more within 24 hours after birth.
