CPI-M slams governor for remarks on SC verdict

The newly-elected national general secretary of Communist Party of India - Marxist (CPI-M) MA Baby lashed out against Kerala Governor Rajendra Arlekar over his critical remarks on arecent Supreme court (SC) verdict explicitly curtailing the discretionary powers of governors overbills passed by state legislatures, According to Baby, the governor should have been willing to accept the SC verdict.
“There should be no need to remind the governor of his constitutional responsibilities. Do state governors enjoy powers that even an elected president does not?” Baby asked.
He remarked that the SC has in fact, after a long time, delivered an observation and verdict that inspire hope. According to Baby, the judgment, which criticised governors for indefinitely delaying bills passed by the state, is a significant one. Baby said that such delays are undemocratic.
